The $5 Book

It was not  a typical Wednsday morning, I woke up early and decided to take a trip to an estate sale that had over 15,000 books in the hopes of finding some hidden treasure or a rare book!

As I was about to leave, I stumbled upon a small, dusty book hidden among the others. I picked it up and blew off the dust to reveal the title, “The Works of Chaucer” 1721 by John Urry. My heart skipped a beat, as I knew that this was no ordinary book. I flipped through the pages and was impressed by the quality of the paper and the intricate designs that adorned on inside of  the cover.

I PAID $5

As soon as I got home, I began to research the history and significance of this book. I discovered that “The Works of Chaucer” 1721 was a first edition of the famous medieval poet, Geoffrey Chaucer. This edition was printed by John Urry, who was a renowned 18th-century English editor and translator. Urry’s edition of “The Works of Chaucer” was considered to be one of the most important editions of the poet’s works, as he included several new translations and annotations.

The book was also significant for its age. It was printed in 1721, making it over 300 years old. The book was in fair  condition, with only a few small creases on the cover and some yellowing of the pages. The fact that it had survived for so long was a testament to the quality of the paper and the craftsmanship that went into its creation.

I was thrilled to have found such a valuable piece of literary history, and I couldn’t believe that I had only paid $5 for it. The book is worth thousands of dollars in mint condition , and I knew that I had made a great investment. I cherished my new treasure and I knew that it would be a valuable addition to my book collection.
